How to choose energy-efficient glass?
 
There are lots of green glasses available for your greener environment. Performance and aesthetic drivers seem to be the prime attributes that drive everyone to choose glasses from myriad of colours and ranges available. Let’s have a brief look about these attributes to know more about those:
 
  • Performance Drivers
 
A)      Optimum Light Transmission- It simply signifies the percentage of light entering into your interiors through the glass panes. The more light transmission factor, brighter will be your edifice. However, in a sub-continent like India, where the natural daylight is brash, the need is not just for a brighter light transmission, but also the optimization of light. Green glasses help you achieve both to the full.
 
B)      Solar factor- It’s a measure that is scaled on the basis of direct solar radiation entering into the building. It’s a measure that corresponds to the glare and it should be as low as possible for tropical countries like India to construct buildings without glare.
 
C)      U value – It’s a measure that is gauged on the amount of heat transferred through the glass pane (from interior to exterior) due to the difference in temperatures between the two environments. This value is crucial in order to let in the natural light and to hinder the unwanted heat/light entering inside the interiors. It is proved that lesser U values maximize the energy efficiency of the building and reduces energy consumption up to 40% stressing the need for a greener environment.
 
Aesthetic Drivers:
 
Aesthetic appeal puts the building on pedestal and gives a vibrant feel then and there. Colour and Reflection are the parameters that play a vital part in enhancing the visual appeal and here are some pointers for that:
 
A)      Colours of Green Glass- People can choose any shade upon their willingness and they’re available in light, lighter, medium, dark and darker shades. Neutral, blue, green, metallic, blue green are the provocative colour that enhances the appeal of your green building.
 
B)       Reflection of Glass – The type of coatingused in your glass façade not only improves aestheticism but also triggers high performance in your building and decides reflection based on those coating measures.
 
People can choose any kind of green glass based on these parameters and kick-start the need for a greenish environment.
 
To add icing on the cake, certifications like LEED are provided to buildings if the edifice has followed standards and norms that enhance outdoor and indoor environmental quality.
