Windows allow heat to flow in and out of your house. Glass plays a major role in the window that prevents excess heat gain in summer and heat lose in winter. In summer this problem causes the increase in Air conditioner’s load. The answer to solve the excess heat gain and lose is the High performance glass. By using this High performance glass in windows can greatly reduce the heat gain, heat lose and also the glare The performance of the glass is basically measured in R-value, U-value, Light transmittance value which shows the rate of light that the glass allows. The other measurements are “shading coefficient” and “UV value” that measure the amount of glare and ultra-violet light allowed through the glass. In order to select the glass for your requirement, one has to know the basic of the values mentioned before, in general if you want to minimize heat transfer, choose the High performance glass that has higher R-Value. In other case if you need maximum lighting, choose a type with a high visual light transmittance value. Similarly to cut glare one has to select glass with lower light transmittance value. To cut heat gain, select glazing with a high shading coefficient. Finally to cut the Ultra-violet rays choose the glass with higher UV-Value. Basically insulating glass may have two or three panes separated by an air space. Double and triple glazed windows are performing better nowadays but these are very expensive and also heavy to handle during installation. The other varieties of High performance glass are Low-e glass; this glass has an invisible metallic coating that blocks the radiant heat transfer. This helps to protect the households from damaging by the harmful ultra-violet rays. The other types of insulating glass have argon gas, which is sealed in between glass panes. This type of low-e glass has about twice the insulating quality than the ordinary glass. Solar bronze and solar gray tinted glass help keep out unwanted heat and ultraviolet rays. If there is a possibility of ultraviolet (UV) damage to floors, rugs, and furniture, consider choosing a glazing that resists UV rays—either one of these tinted types or a low-e glazing. So we conclude that by using High performance glass we are able to reduce not only heat but also you electricity bill. Saint Gobain Glass India produces High performance glasses, they are |
