Low e glass at Sky deck Peninsula Business Park << Back

Learn how a 55ft high rise building in the heart of Mumbai has achieved energy efficiency by using glass. The building has used low e glass in double glazing.

Beautiful and good for the environment, the Peninsula Business Park is that intelligent, environmentally-friendly workspace.

Twin-towers of 20 floors each rise from the ground like statues of Greek heroes, ready to guard all those inside it, right next to an exclusive 2-storey building. A lush, landscaped lawn is salvo for eyes ravaged by the sun. Even at the first level, 83 feet above the ground, you can take in all of the city with your eyes.

Project Details:

The work on the project started in 2008. Today, it’s almost complete. There are two towers of 20 storeys each, with five levels of parking below them and a cantilever deck of 11 metres at P-5 parking level which connects both buildings. In addition to this, they have a club house and extremely high-end security and fire management systems. It’s situated in Lower Parel, which is Mumbai’s new and upcoming business Mecca.

So how was this momentous project conceived and created?

We spoke to Venkatraman B., the project head to answer some of our burning questions.

Mr Venkatraman, Vice-President , projects at Peninsula Land Speaks to Glazette

Key Achievement of the Project

According to Mr. Venkatraman, Peninsula Park’s Skydeck is its key achievement. It’s one-of-a-kind, stands 55 ft above the ground and is surrounded by a fabulous view of Mughal gardens and has waterbodies all around it. The other highlight is the connection of the deck with a central portion between the two buildings. Peninsula Business Park sees some great quality work as well as some top-notch planning.

Role of Glass in the Project:

Both buildings’ external façade is made of low-emission double-glazed glass that saves energy and optimizes resources. Its soothing blue tones make the park look amazing and contrast well with the landscaped garden built around it. The effect of blue against green is the epitome of tranquility.

The Experience of Working on the Project:

According to Mr. Venkatraman, the project was a tough one to work on, because the total construction area was about 22 lakh sq ft. This made the scale of the project, mammoth!

How has the Peninsula Business Park achieved its Green Objectives?

Glass has definitely played an important role. Apart from the glass used, there’s a sewage treatment plant that recycles all the wasted water coming from the buildings. They are also equipped with rainwater harvesting systems that improve ground water level. Solar energy and timer-controlled lighting does the rest of the work. Over 1000 varied trees have been planted in the garden surrounding the buildings, so that the air is fresh and laden with oxygen for the worker bees to inhale. With all these arrangements, the Peninsula Business Park is as eco-friendly as they get!
